Today I got to meet Victoria Theodore, the current keyboardist for Beyoncé! She’s probably one of the smartest persons I’ve met – graduated from Oberlin Conservatory and Stanford University, established a career in computer programming but she switched to performing as she still likes music more, and now holding one of the best gigs of today. Despite all these credentials she can boast of, she recognises that these things doesn’t matter when you’re on stage. What’s most important is keeping the musical conversation going with your fellow musicians and leaving your ego at the rehearsal doors.
"It is not about what credentials you have or who you've played for when you're making music. It's about having a conversation. When you try to be right before everybody, you're no longer making a conversation." – Victoria Theodore (sharing about how she leaves her ego at the door of rehearsals) Thankful for the words of wisdom. Very humbling to have the Beyoncé crew to stop by Berklee/BoCo to share their individual journeys. Lastly, check out her latest album "Grateful"! #victoriatheodore #classicalpianist #jazzpianist #oberlinconservatory #computerprogrammer #stanforduniversity #steviewonder #beyonce #😱 📷: @mona_s_b_ (thank you!)
